JetBlue flight diverted after telephone bomb threat

By msnbc.com news services

A Chicago-to-Boston JetBlue flight was diverted to Buffalo, N.Y., early Monday because of a telephoned bomb threat.

Flight 923 landed safely in Buffalo, and the plane was met by authorities, JetBlue said in a statement. There were 86 passengers and four crew members aboard, JetBlue spokesperson Alison Croyle told Reuters.

Authorities swept and cleared the plane at a cargo area away from the terminal and it eventually continued on to Chicago, said Buffalo Niagara International Airport spokesman Douglas Hartmayer.?

?The plane landed safely at 8:25 a.m. and has since been cleared of any possible threats,? the Transportation Security Administration said in a statement.

One passenger was detained, FBI spokesman Greg Nelson told Reuters.

A call from Boston to the airline headquarters indicating there may be an explosive device on board prompted the diversion, Hartmayer said.?The caller identified the seat number and name of a passenger who was purportedly involved, he said.

A female passenger identified in the call was detained in Buffalo and questioned but later released, he said.?

The Boston caller was located and interviewed as well, the FBI said.?
